Embracing The cold & Quiet Energy of Kapha Season
As the year winds down, I find myself in a unique and unexpected chapter of life—one that, surprisingly, feels lighter than it has in a long time. Losing my full-time position as an e-commerce platform trust and safety manager was not in the plan. But instead of feeling overwhelmed by the uncertainty, I’ve found a sense of relief that I haven’t felt in years. For the first time, I’m welcoming the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and embrace the warmth of the season.
This December, I’m stepping into something deeply meaningful: a Yoga Teacher Training at my favorite local studio. This studio has been my sanctuary—a place where I’ve grown, healed, and found balance over the past year and a half. Starting my training here feels like a homecoming, a chance to deepen my practice and connect with the roots of what brings me peace and fulfillment. I’ve also taken on a very minimal role at the studio, allowing me to stay close to the community I love while finding my footing again.
The Gift of Slowing Down
The transition into this slower season couldn’t have come at a better time. With the loss of my corporate role—and the stress that came with it—I’ve had the chance to pause, breathe, and notice the little things that often get lost in the chaos of life. For the first time in years, I don’t feel the crushing weight of deadlines or the pressure of endless to-do lists. Instead, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for this moment to simply be.
In Ayurveda, winter is a time to slow down and nurture ourselves. The cold, quiet energy of the season mirrors Kapha dosha, encouraging us to seek warmth, comfort, and grounding. It’s a time to lean into hygge—cozy blankets, warm teas, candlelight, and moments of stillness. This aligns perfectly with where I am in my life right now: embracing simplicity and cultivating peace.
Yoga, Ayurveda, and Looking Ahead
As I prepare for this new chapter in my journey both in life and in yoga, I’m reminded of the beauty of yoga and Ayurveda as practices that meet us where we are. Yoga helps us connect with our breath, find balance in our bodies, and quiet our minds. Ayurveda offers tools for nourishing ourselves—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Together, they provide a roadmap for navigating life’s transitions with grace and intention.
This season, my focus is on gentle yoga flows and grounding Ayurvedic practices. Here are a few of my favorites that I’ll be leaning into as I embrace this slower pace:
Yoga Poses: Restorative poses like Child’s Pose, Supine Twist, and Legs-Up-The-Wall to promote relaxation and calm.
Ayurvedic Rituals: Sipping warm spiced teas, enjoying hearty soups and stews, and indulging in self-massage (Abhyanga) with warming oils.
Mindful Moments: Lighting candles during my evening rituals, journaling about my intentions for the new year, and savoring the simple joys of this season.
Foraging Ahead with Positivity
While I know this season of slowness may not last forever—corporate life has a way of pulling us back in—I’m committed to making the most of it. I’m using this time to plant seeds for the future, from my Yoga Teacher Training to nurturing my Ayurvedic practices. And even as the holidays approach without the security of my previous income, I feel lighter, more hopeful, and ready to embrace what’s ahead.
This December, I invite you to join me in slowing down, finding warmth in the little things, and reconnecting with what truly matters. Whether it’s through yoga, Ayurveda, or simply taking a moment to breathe, let’s make space for peace and joy as we close out the year.
